Portfolio Director – Immunology & Infectious Disease | United States
We are supporting a global CRO with the appointment of an experienced Portfolio Director to lead a portfolio of clinical development programmes across Immunology & Infectious Disease in the US.
This is a senior leadership role combining clinical operations, portfolio strategy, client leadership and business growth. You will oversee a team of Project Directors and Project Managers while taking ownership of the performance, development and continued growth of the portfolio.
The opportunity
You will work closely with Therapeutic Area leadership, Medical & Scientific Strategy and Business Development teams to shape operational strategy, strengthen existing client relationships and support the award of new and repeat business.
Key responsibilities will include:
• Leading the delivery and performance of multiple complex clinical development programmes
• Growing the Immunology & Infectious Disease portfolio through proposals, bid defences and strategic client engagement
• Acting as a senior relationship lead for key clients and proactively identifying opportunities to strengthen partnerships
• Coaching and developing Project Directors and Project Managers
• Overseeing portfolio KPIs including timelines, quality, financial performance and client satisfaction
• Managing portfolio-level risk and ensuring appropriate mitigation strategies are implemented
• Working cross-functionally with Clinical Operations, Medical & Scientific Strategy, Business Development and Finance
• Supporting the longer-term strategy and development of the Immunology & Infectious Disease Therapeutic Area
• Ensuring projects are delivered in accordance with ICH-GCP and relevant regulatory requirements
What we are looking for
We are interested in speaking with senior clinical development leaders who combine strong operational delivery experience with genuine commercial and client-facing capability.
You will ideally bring:
• Significant clinical research and clinical project/portfolio leadership experience within a CRO, biotech or pharmaceutical environment
• Strong experience leading complex global clinical programmes
• Demonstrable expertise within Immunology and/or Infectious Disease
• Experience managing and developing senior Project Management teams
• A strong understanding of clinical development, ICH-GCP and regulatory requirements
• Proven client relationship management and stakeholder leadership skills
• Experience contributing to proposals, bid defences and new business growth
• Strong financial and commercial acumen, including portfolio budgeting and forecasting
• The ability to operate strategically while remaining close enough to delivery to identify and resolve issues early
This position would particularly suit someone who has moved beyond managing individual studies and is now looking to take broader ownership of a therapeutic portfolio, senior client relationships and business growth.
