Business Development Director – Clinical Research (UK Based)

We are supporting a leading global clinical research organisation in the search for a Business Development Director to join their European team.

This is a senior, individual contributor role focused on driving new business growth across biotech and pharmaceutical clients, while contributing to a high-performing, collaborative commercial team.


The Opportunity

You will play a key role in:

  • Identifying and securing new business opportunities across Europe
  • Building long-term relationships with biotech and pharmaceutical clients
  • Leading complex, solution-led sales processes across clinical development services
  • Contributing to a high-performing, collaborative team culture

The role offers strong visibility, autonomy, and the ability to make a meaningful commercial impact within a growth environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a strategic territory and account plan
  • Identify, engage and develop relationships with new client organisations
  • Lead the full sales lifecycle from early engagement through to contract award
  • Manage RFP processes, including proposal development and bid defence
  • Collaborate closely with clinical, operational and functional teams to shape competitive solutions
  • Build and expand key accounts, generating repeat and long-term partnerships
  • Maintain accurate pipeline management and forecasting

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience in business development within clinical research, CRO, or related life sciences services
  • Proven ability to win and grow business with biotech and pharmaceutical clients
  • Strong understanding of the clinical trial landscape and drug development process
  • Experience managing complex, consultative sales cycles
  • Ability to operate independently while collaborating across global teams
  • Commercially driven with a strong “hunter” mindset and relationship-building capability
